In October six Entrapov entrepreneurs were funded by generous sponsors! This makes 66 total businesses, families, and their communities who have been blessed through the sustainable power of entrepreneurship to lift them out of poverty.
Below is what a student said about the training they receive each Saturday from Entrapov:
“This is my family (see photo below) when we had just done with Entrapov class and it was raining. We had no transportation to home so we covered ourselves with plastic coz of the love of knowledge.”
This is their class huddled around a laptop watching the lesson in Malawi.
Entrepreneur Spotlight
James Chishinji, owner of Cream Tech Garbage Disposal in Malawi received funding to lease a garbage truck. Last year 480 people in James’ community died of dysentery from poor waste management. The government in Malawi cannot fund waste removal. So after hearing James’ business pitch and reviewing his solid financial projections during a Shark Pond event in October, Mark Gilbert didn’t hesitate to sponsor. These funds give James exclusive access to a garbage truck at all hours, instead of just when it is not being used by others. This improved lease will double their sales while only moderately adding to expenses.
As with so many startups in Africa, success is only hampered by the total lack of access to capital at affordable rates. African central banks obtain funds at around 28% APR, which means they can only lend at around 36% APR with good collateral to secure the loan (collateral is also scarce in these impoverished areas). This is why Entrapov startups experience a 90% success rate when lending at zero percent over 2 years. There are so many good ideas, but so little capital to fund startups. Thanks to Entrapov sponsors, so many families are being lifted out of poverty…permanently.
Calgary, Canada will host the 2025 Rotary International Conference. Entrapov and Rotary District 5400 will have a booth to sign up hundreds of clubs from around the world to fund Rotary Shark Pond service projects! If you are attending, please let me know if you can volunteer for a shift in our booth that week.
