DESCRIBE YOUR BUSINESS:
The name of my business is called GabyMot Anzaldi’s Enterprise, I coined this name from my two wonderful daughters Gabriella and Mottolese Anzaldi. It is a registered social enterprise that seeks to generate income and maximize profit by solving societal concerns that everyone on this planet is challenged with. GabyMot seeks to recycle, repurpose, reuse, and upcycle plastic and paper waste to help mitigate the global pandemic of the adverse, menace and pollution as well as the concerns of Climate Change. Currently, I have partnered with three big plastic manufacturing companies in the Greater Kumasi region of Ghana namely MiniPlast which is a Canadian plastic manufacturing company here, Why Waste initiative from the Federation of Helping Hands Organization, an NGO that is concerned about plastic waste and provision of basic health facilities to deprived urban and rural communities and lastly, Doganstar plastics, also a Turkish manufacturing company and a Chinese plastic flaking company around Atonsu Kumasi. Environment360 has also agreed to transact with us just recently.
This microloan will help the enterprise to secure a tricycle. Transportation and pickup of Agents’ supplies are a greater challenge for the enterprise which affects our revenue since we need to hire trucks for such function which is expensive and comes with unfavorable conditions, if we are able to secure our own tricycle truck, we will be able to drastically cut down the transport cost and by so doing we’ll be able to set up more community buy back collection sites, maximize profit as well as being able to realize our future goals. The purchase of our own tricycle truck will curb the concerns of transportation cost, it will increase the quantities of plastic waste supplies received from agents, it will help employ a helping hand, boost productivity and sustainability of the enterprise, pragmatically being able to introduce more initiatives and projects that will benefit both the business entity and the community at large.
EXPLAIN THE PROBLEM.
Plastic and paper waste is a pandemic global concern which does not only affect the environment but also has a detrimental effect on our health. Single use plastic is a concerning problem in Greater Kumasi, almost everything we buy is wrapped in different types of plastic. Being able to find sustainable means of dealing with this societal canker birthed GabyMot Anzaldi’s Enterprise.
EXPLAIN YOUR SOLUTION.
GabyMot is a business entity that seeks to recycle, reuse, repurpose, and upcycle plastic waste and provide huge employment opportunities for the most vulnerable individuals. This is done by organizing and offering training to aged women who are accused of witchcraft due to the signs and symptoms of menopausal period, single mothers, teenage mothers, school dropouts, and people with disabilities as agents who gather, collect, and sort plastic waste of different types. When they reach a targeted quantity or over, arrangements are made for the plastic to be weighed and transported to the recycling and plastic manufacturing companies for sale and then agents are paid based on the plastics they brought.
Each kilogram of plastic is calculated so that agents can earn their respective commissions. Plastic has numerous usages and can be utilized in various aspects, so GabyMot seeks to flake plastics into granules for local sales and international export, in future, we seek to obtain fabric from plastic so fabric designers can use it to produce different products, mixing sand and natural fibers with plastic serving as a binder to produce pavement and construction blocks as alternative for affordable building.
BUSINESS MISSION STATEMENT:
Making vulnerable minorities become self-reliant, utilizing pragmatic efforts to sustainably mitigate the adverse effect of plastic waste through recycling, reuse, repurpose and upcycle.
HOW LONG HOW YOU BEEN IN BUSINESS?
Since September 2024, though we have been researching and piloting this business initiative since September 2023.
YOUR NET INCOME
Plastics of different types are gathered, collected, and sorted by commission-based agents, GabyMot buys per kilo from the agents based on quality and sells to recycling and plastic manufacturing companies we have partnered with. After deducting agents’ commissions, transportation costs, airtime/internet bundle for communication, taxes, and salary, net income is subjected to the quantity of goods agents supply and quantities of goods accepted by customers.
A typical scenario is in the month of September 2024, after getting mosquito nets, sacks, reflector vests, durable hand gloves, and improvised sticks for agents, the month’s starting balance was $149.44, in total we bought 9,982.84 from agents at a rate of $0.074 per kilo and sold it to partnered recycling and plastic manufacturing companies at a rate of $0.15 per kilo. After deducting transport expenses which were $0.035 per kilo, salary of $124.72, the closing balance was $403.48. This means that we made a net profit of $254.04.
SERVICE OR PRODUCT DELIVERABLE:
GabyMot Anzaldi’s Enterprise sells pre-consumable plastic waste to Big Recycling and plastic manufacturing companies. Pre-consumable plastic waste are bottles or containers made from plastic that have been deformed during its manufacturing and hence cannot perform its function, hence fruit, water, and drinks plastic bottling companies discard them, and agents get access to them.
Post-consumerable plastic waste is plastic bottles or containers that have been utilized by consumers, mostly single-purpose plastic bottles and containers. Also, plastic products in various households have broken. There are different types of plastic that we are interested in since they are high in demand. These are PET like water bottles (about 70% of our sales come from this), HDPE like shampoo bottles (10% of our sales come from this), LDPE like bread bags, water sachets (15% of our sales come from this), PP like yogurt cups (5% of our sales come from this).
DESCRIBE YOUR BEST CUSTOMER:
My customers are big recycling and plastic manufacturing companies, fabric fashion designers, exotic shoemakers, and dressmakers.
My best customer is Miniplast Ghana Limited, a Canadian recycling and plastic manufacturing company that produces different plastic products like plastic chairs and tables, washing basins, plastic kitchen and toilet wares, and water bottles among others. Miniplast is concerned with sustainable means of recycling plastic waste as well as providing sufficient self-support to vulnerable communities. They have specialized machines that automatically sort plastics and wash them before flaking them into granules of different sizes. This makes it easier for them to have goods that come from different agents and avenues.
WHY CUSTOMERS DO BUSINESS WITH YOU RATHER THAN WITH YOUR COMPETITORS?:
They believe in our ideology of training and providing Personal Protective Equipment to agents, this makes agents provide better clean goods that customers have ease working with and saves production costs for customers. We partner with NGOs and other corporate entities to organize environmental and health projects that educate the general populace on their individual obligations in fighting against plastic pollution as well as having environmental clubs in various senior high and tertiary institutions, sensitizing students on how they can contribute their quota in fighting plastic pollution as a collective effort. These actionable efforts we prioritize as we focus on helping vulnerable minorities to be self–reliant make our customers love to do business with us rather than our competitors.
